About
The Roadhouse Hymnals started out as a collection of devotionals I felt led to write inspired by the blues and rock music I love and grew up with. I thought those songs could serve as a segue to words of encouragement, inspiration, hope, and understanding found throughout the Bible. Those songs often captured the same thoughts, emotions, and feelings we all regularly experience and they mirrored the same issues I often find answers and seek comfort for in the Bible. I've come to learn that God can and will show up anywhere…but you have to be looking for Him. I thought if I could hear God through lyrics, a Les Paul, and back-beat rhythm...maybe others could too? My hope was these devotionals, these "Roadhouse Hymnals" would serve as a guidepost and reminder of God's love for us.
The Roadhouse is a metaphor that perfectly captures the image of the broken world we live in. The "Roadhouse" is symbolic for the loud, cluttered, broken, sweaty, overcrowded place where sinners go to seek meaning and beauty in the world around them. And it illustrates the perfect example of the type of places I believe Jesus was likely to hang out looking for those He said He came to the world to save.
Unfortunately too many have been led to believe God demands we clean ourselves up before we can meet Him on his own turf. Equally unfortunate is some within the church have perpetuated this belief over the years leaving many to feel the standard is simply too high to entertain the thought of seeking God in times of trouble. Thankfully, we have a God who seeks us! Yes, even in the "Roadhouse." We have a God who will use every resource available to get your attention wherever you are, including a 40watt tube amp and a I-IV-V chord progression. God meets us at the Roadhouse and asks nothing more than for us to take a little time to get to know Him. He already knows you.
My hope is that you'll explore these pages. Read the devotionals and see if they resonate. Listen to the songs referenced and let God speak to you through them, or listen for God's "still small voice" on your own playlist. If you are curious and feel led, I also offer coaching services to assist you on your spiritual journey. The Roadhouse is a place for people seeking understanding and truth. This Roadhouse is free from judgement or any expectations other than an open heart and an open mind filled with the spirit of curiosity and wonder. On these pages you'll find what I believe is a call placed on my heart by a living God to use my given gifts, talents, and desires by inviting others to learn about the power and beauty of a God that loves without limits.
Jesus extended that same invitation over 2000 years ago to people with all the same doubts, challenges, beliefs and fears. And He did it from a place of love, acceptance, and openness. I want to do my best to model His example. If it all sounds intriguing, please, explore the site and join in where you feel comfortable doing so. Welcome to the Roadhouse! Peace.
“It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” - Jesus
